Education and Practice

Dr. Josephine Andrews was born in Mexico City and graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He majored in internal medicine at Tulane University and clinical pharmacology at the Ochsner Medical Foundation, both in New Orleans, Louisiana. He did graduate work in endocrinology at the University of California, San Diego.

For more than 10 years, Dr. Josephine Andrews maintained her private practice in Internal Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.

Professional activities

Dr. Josephine Andrews was President of the California Hispanic American Medical Association (CHAMA) for four terms. He also served on the National Confederation of Hispanic Medical Associations (NCHMA). He was a member of the Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA) and President of the Beverly Hills District of the same. He was Vice-Chairman of the Los Angeles County Commission on AIDS. The doctor was also a member of the board of the California Medical Association (CMA). She was President of the Committee on International Graduate Medicine of the American Medical Association (AMA), President of the Commission on Medical Education, and the Consultative Committee on the Women’s Health Campaign, both from the same association. At the federal level, Dr. Lifshitz served as a member of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He was also a member of the Working Group on Medical Licensing for the Council of Graduate Medical Education, Department of Health and Human Services of the US government.

The doctor was vice president of the board of directors of Blue Shield of California and president of the Blue Shield of California Foundation.
