Foot scrubs care for the skin and help to remove calluses. Read here how you can make your own foot peeling with natural ingredients using just a few ingredients and what you should bear in mind when using it.

What is a foot scrub?

The foot scrub is a care product for the feet. It is often part of a pedicure, but can also be done separately. It usually consists of a cream or an oil with coarse particles, for example coarse salt , which when rubbed in excess skin flakes and calluses .

Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells. As a result, younger cells move up and reach the surface. The skin is cared for in this way and feels smoother.

In pharmacies or drugstores you can buy ready-made products. You can also do your own foot peeling with olive oil and salt, for example.

Instructions: Make your own foot scrub

Foot scrubs with natural ingredients are easy to make at home. We present five different recipes that do not contain any artificial additives .

Foot peeling with coconut oil & sea salt

This basic recipe for a foot scrub with oil and salt requires just a few ingredients and can be varied as you like. You need the following things for this:

  • 4 tbsp (80 g) fine sea salt
  • 3 tbsp (45 ml) neutral organic vegetable oil, such as sunflower or coconut oil

To prepare the foot scrub:

  • Mix sea salt and oil in a bowl until the consistency is the consistency of wet sand. The salt should not float in the oil.
  • Pour the mix into a jar or mason jar.
  • This basic mixture can now be refined as desired – for example with 30 drops of essential oils. Or mix in a tablespoon of melted cocoa or shea butter. Pink Himalayan salt provides a beautiful color accent.

Foot peeling with peppermint oil

A foot scrub recipe with peppermint oil is refreshing. The ingredients for about 80 grams of peeling mass are as follows:

  • 1 tbsp (15g) shea butter
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) olive oil
  • 2 tbsp (40 g) sea salt
  • 1 TL (5 g) Natron
  • 5 drops of peppermint oil

To prepare the foot scrub:

  • In a small saucepan, combine the shea butter and olive oil and slowly heat over low heat.
  • Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix the sea salt with the baking soda.
  • Add the melted shea butter and olive oil to the salt mixture and mix well.
  • Finally, drizzle the peppermint oil onto a small spoon and stir into the mixture.
  • Now you can pour the mass into a crucible or a mason jar.
  • The shelf life always depends on the ingredient whose expiry date expires first. It is important to only take the peeling mass out of the pan with dry fingers.

Baking soda peeling

Coarse-grain baking soda is also good for a foot scrub. The advantage: the granules are large enough to mechanically remove layers of dead skin, but have no sharp edges that could damage the skin. The alkaline pH of baking soda solutions helps neutralize excess acids. In addition, the body’s own sebum production is stimulated.

For a baking soda scrub you will need

  • 100 g coarse-grain baking soda
  • some lukewarm water or vegetable oil such as coconut, olive or sesame oil

To make the scrub, combine the ingredients in a bowl, mix and apply immediately.

Avocado Almond Oil Scrub

An avocado is very rich in fat and contains many nutrients. It also absorbs quickly into the skin. Together with the almond oil, it leaves the skin soft and smelling good. We present you a recipe with these two ingredients.

The ingredients for the avocado almond oil scrub are:

  • ½ round Avocado
  • 2 EL Salz
  • 1 tablespoon ground almonds / or poppy seeds
  • 1 tbsp almond oil

To prepare the scrub:

  • Mash the avocado and mix with the almond oil.
  • In a separate bowl, combine salt, lemon zest, and ground almonds.
  • Gradually add the mixture with the dry ingredients to the avocado-oil mixture and mix well.

Stimulating foot scrub

Cornmeal and sea salt smooth rough skin. Peppermint oil has a cooling and invigorating effect. Almond oil provides moisture. Therefore, mix an invigorating foot scrub with the following ingredients:

  • 45 g finely ground cornmeal
  • 1 tablespoon sea salt
  • 1 tsp almond oil
  • 3 drops of peppermint essential oil

To prepare the scrub:

  • Mix the ingredients with enough water to form a thick paste.

Application of foot scrubs

Before you start exfoliating, immerse your feet in a lukewarm foot bath for ten minutes. The effect: If the skin is already soft, the peeling makes it easier to remove the calluses.

Massage the peeling mass well into the entire foot with circular movements.

Finally, rinse off the small granules with lukewarm water.

After the peeling, apply a good care cream or lotion to your feet. Ingredients such as urea, chamomile or aloe vera are suitable. To intensify the care, put on a pair of socks and leave the cream on overnight.

That’s why peelings are so good for calluses!

Slight callus formation can usually be removed by peeling. If you take a foot bath beforehand, it will be easier. Dead Sea salt or salicylic acid, which is found in willow bark tincture, are suitable additives for the water.

Then massage the peeling compound thoroughly into each foot. This allows the callus layers to be gently removed. If the callus is stubborn, use a pumice stone after the peeling.
